Our house B&B Appartamenti Cèsa Planber Mountain View is located in the center of Canazei (1,465 meters above sea level), in a privileged position for discovering the town all year round. We are sure that as soon as you enter the town it will be love at first sight: not only thanks to the suggestive view of the Gran Vernel and the Dolomite peaks that seem to embrace and protect the typical houses, but also thanks to the magical atmosphere that only a jewel like the Our country knows how to give both to those who visit for the first time and to the inhabitants who are lucky enough to wake up every morning surrounded by new views, colors and landscapes.
We at Cèsa Planber are a family born and raised in this splendid place and we would be happy to accompany you to discover the most curious and hidden corners of Canazei, revealing its strengths, curiosities and some historical hints.
The inhabitants of Canazei are called “Pazedins” in reference to the pazeida, a wooden container used to make cajoncie pasta (stuffed ravioli). For this reason, they were seen as gourmets. Until the beginning of the century, this ancient mountain center was one of the poorest villages in the valley and the economy was mainly based on pastoral activities. It is only from the second half of the nineteenth century that tourism begins to take hold thanks to the interest of scholars and explorers. Thus were born the first refuges and hotels to give refreshment to mountaineers, the first paths were opened and the first via ferratas were built, while connections were facilitated thanks to the construction of the Great Dolomites Road inaugurated in 1909. Only after the Second World War did the real tourist boom which, thanks also to the favorable position close to the Dolomite passes, at the foot of the famous peaks of the Marmolada, the Sella Group, Sassolungo, has made Canazei one of the most sought-after tourist destinations for lovers of the mountains and outdoor sports and experiences, offering a wide range of opportunities.
IN WINTER Canazei is the favorite destination for all lovers of winter sports, from skiing to snowboarding, thanks to modern ski lifts that connect the town directly to the most famous ski area in the world, the Dolomiti Superski (our house is located 20 meters from the Canazei-Pecol-Belvedere cableway n°101, starting point of the Sellaronda tour), but also for cross-country skiing, which can be practiced in the various loops directly in the village, mountaineering skiing, for simple but fascinating winter excursions and walks with snowshoes immersed in nature to experience an unforgettable emotion. Also not to be missed is the experience of a dinner at high altitude, turning to the huts that offer the ascent service by snowmobile or snowcat and descent by sled.
IN SUMMER in Canazei you can relax, have fun and play sports even in the summer: trails, lakes, glaciers and spectacular panoramas await you! The pristine and luxuriant nature of the Dolomites will leave even the most skeptical traveler speechless. Canazei represents a real paradise for trekking: it is an excellent starting point for high-altitude excursions amid fairy-tale landscapes and easy walks in the valley floor, trips on two wheels in the footsteps of great cyclists such as Passo Pordoi with Cima Coppi, or the Fedaia Pass, along the Giro dei Quattro Passi (Sellaronda MTB Tour), or for a panoramic family ride on the Dolomites cycle path, which with its 48 km runs through the entire Val di Fassa and Fiemme. Also renowned for its international events including the Dolomyths Run Skyrace, a thrilling running race in the high mountains. Furthermore, the fabulous panoramas and the dizzying cliffs that open up to make way for the verdant valleys are the boon for paragliders and hang gliders.
For those with a sweet tooth instead, in Canazei you can find a real mountain of pleasures! The town offers a great multitude of typical restaurants and inns where you can taste traditional dishes, as well as typical and sports shops, charming artistic craft shops for shopping: how about a souvenir to bring to those who have remained in the city? Or some typical specialties such as Puzzone di Moena or Campitello, DOP cheeses with a strong and decisive flavour, or Speck Alto Adige IGP, or even South Tyrolean DOC wines such as Lagrein or Pinot Noir? There is also no shortage of bars and pastry shops in which to spend an afternoon with the family, and the renowned après-ski, a real ritual just a few steps from our house, for an evening in the company of friends: fun is guaranteed here!
FOR FAMILIES Canazei offers a large equipped playground (250 m) with a soccer field, tennis, bowling center, toboggan runs; a well-equipped kinderland for assistance and ski kindergarten; an aquatic center with pools, a 111-metre parabolic slide, fitness center and gym, and a cinema with programming almost all year round. Simple and short walks suitable even for the little ones will lead you to the nearby adventure parks, stables with friendly ponies, climbing gyms, and the ice stadium.
CULTURE AND TRADITION What about the attractions? Starting directly from our house, with a short 5-minute walk, you can reach the central square (Piazza Marconi, 250m), where the dancers of the Casa del Cucù perform at 11:00 and 17:00, and then continue the walk to discover the historic center of Canazei (150 meters), where many completely wooden barns are still kept, embellished during the summer with colorful flowers that brighten the streets. You cannot miss a visit to the La Floriana house, a small and charming building entirely decorated by hand: for photography enthusiasts (and not only), a selfie with the gnomes and the characteristic building are a must! Along the narrow streets you will also discover historical places such as the picturesque church of San Floriano or the suggestive church of the Madonna della Neve, wonderfully Baroque. During the year there are numerous village festivals and typical festivals such as the Gran Festa da d’Istà: the dreamy atmosphere that you will breathe will make you feel part of another time, immersed in the customs and traditions of the Ladin tradition.
The elements described make up the panorama of the splendid Canazei, the undisputed pearl of the Val di Fassa. But there are numerous panoramic points, lakes and Dolomite destinations in the surrounding area such as Lake Carezza (24 km), Lake Fedaia (12 km), the Terrace of the Dolomites at Sass Pordoi 2,950 m (12 km), Cortina d ‘Ampezzo (60km). Canazei and Val di Fassa are therefore not only this, but also much more!
